Quantum Network Topology Design Considering Entanglement Consumption Efficiency

(in English) While the development of large-scale quantum computers is still in progress, distributed quantum computing, which interconnects multiple small-scale quantum computers via quantum networks, has attracted significant attention. In quantum networks, operations such as swapping and purification are essential for qubit transmission; however, they increase entanglement consumption and processing time.
This paper proposes a quantum network topology design to determine the optimal placement and quantity of quantum memory on a physical network. The proposed method formulates a combinatorial optimization problem to minimize the total entanglement consumption across the network while considering communication demands and quantum memory constraints, solving it using a genetic algorithm. Furthermore, the link fidelity model incorporates polarization mode dispersion (PMD), which causes distance-dependent attenuation.
Numerical examples investigate the impact of the maximum quantum memory capacity and PMD coefficients on entanglement consumption. The results demonstrate that the proposed method satisfies all communication demands with lower entanglement consumption than comparative methods, confirming its effectiveness even under strict quantum memory capacity constraints or environments with high PMD coefficients.
