Implementation and evaluation of in-Network Congestion Control nodes using eBPF

(in English) Our research group has been investigating In-Network Congestion Control (NCC) as a novel mechanism to handle the increasing diversity and complexity of the Internet. Unlike conventional congestion control based on the end-to-end principle, NCC deploys control nodes within the network to split feedback loops between sending and receiving terminals, enabling congestion control tailored to specific network characteristics. However, a significant challenge remains: excessive data accumulation at NCC nodes caused by mismatched data transfer rates across different feedback loops. In this report, we propose a data transfer method that leverages eBPF to complete the data relaying process entirely within the kernel space of the NCC node. The proposed method is designed to achieve high throughput, low CPU overhead, and low latency without the need for manual parameter tuning, which is often required in conventional user-space relaying. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method maintains or exceeds the throughput of existing approaches while reducing CPU utilization and queuing delay, proving its effectiveness in addressing the data accumulation problem in NCC nodes.
