Throughput Evaluation of MU-MIMO in Urban and Suburban Environments with FR3 Hybrid Beamforming

(in English) Towards the sixth generation (6G), the utilization of frequencies around 7–24 GHz, known as Frequency Range 3 (FR3), is attracting attention. In FR3, beamforming (BF) using a large number of antenna elements is expected to achieve both wide coverage and high-capacity communication. The authors have previously evaluated the single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) performance of FR3 using hybrid BF in urban environments and demonstrated the potential to achieve high SINR by reducing inter-cell interference while securing coverage equivalent to FR1, primarily in Line of Sight (LoS) environments. In this paper, to more precisely evaluate the system capacity of FR3 assuming actual operation, we conduct a performance evaluation applying multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO). Furthermore, we extend the scope of evaluation to different terrain environments, urban and suburban areas, to assess the area quality of FR3 in each environment. Moreover, we report results clarifying the factors regarding the differences in frequency characteristics between FR1 and FR3 in LoS and Non-Line of Sight (NLoS) environments, the spatial multiplexing effect of FR3 when applying MU-MIMO, and the characteristics of FR3 in urban and suburban environments.
