(in English) Wireless local area networks (WLANs) have achieved higher data rates through two major technological axes: wider transmission bandwidths and higher transmission efficiency. Since WLANs operate as license-exempt systems, an important challenge is how to secure and effectively utilize wide bandwidths while ensuring coexistence with other wireless systems. In addition, because WLANs use a CSMA/CA-based access scheme, interference avoidance techniques are effective in improving transmission efficiency. Furthermore, enhancing the utilization of time resources can lead to improved spectrum efficiency. This presentation overviews key technological trends from the perspective of spectrum utilization, focusing on IEEE 802.11ax, 802.11be, and the latest standardization activities of IEEE 802.11bn. It also introduces the IEEE 802.11bq standardization, which aims to expand the use of the 60 GHz band characterized by higher propagation directivity compared to the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. In addition, the presentation addresses Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC), for which regulation is being developed and implemented across countries to enable coexistence with other systems in the 6 GHz band.
