As optical networks become more open, a variety of communication devices are optically connected. Therefore, in order to utilize the highly versatile GSNR (Generalized Signal to Noise Ratio), which is independent of communication speed or modulation method, as a quality indicator, we proposed a method to estimate GSNR from the Pre-FEC BER value measured by the DCO transceiver of communication devices and evaluated its practicality. We confirmed that the proposed method can be used to determine whether an optical communication network is normal or abnormal, and that the difference in the GSNR estimation results of the simplified method compared to the precise method was within 0.5 dB, making it practical. |
