This study investigated the influence of biological tissue scattering structures on acoustic properties evaluated in ultrasound diagnosis. Using biological simulation phantoms and excised rat livers (normal liver group and fatty liver group), speed of sound and attenuation coefficient were estimated using the reflection method. In the phantoms, increasing scatterer concentration resulted in higher speed of sound and greater attenuation coefficient. In the excised livers, a tendency toward higher attenuation coefficients was observed in the fatty liver group. This indicates that the degree of fat droplet deposition within the liver, as confirmed by histopathology, can potentially be reflected in acoustic parameters. |
