We have developed a reflectarray that reflects and focuses orbital angular momentum (OAM) waves radiated from a loop antenna array.
By using the OAM waves, multiple communication on the same frequency is possible due to spatial mode orthogonality. However, they have some issues in use, such as the fact that they tend to spread and are difficult to use over long distances, and the need to align the central axis when transmitting and receiving. Therefore, we introduce a reflectarray to extend the range of OAM waves. In addition to changing the propagation direction, we also aim to extend the propagation distance by providing a focusing effect through appropriate adjustment of the reflection phase. As a first step, in this paper, we first investigated the focusing effect of the reflectarray by replacing the paraboloid reflector used for long-distance communications to focus OAM waves radiated from loop antennas with a reflectarray. In this study, it was examined that the arrangement of the reflectarray's unit cells, confirmed the characteristics of two types of unit cell structures, analyzed propagation performance, and conducted measurements in the 40 GHz band. As a result, a certain degree of OAM wave focusing effect was confirmed for lower-order mode OAM waves. |
