Compared to human visual characteristics, the dynamic range of a typical camera is relatively narrow. As a result, in scenes with large brightness differences, issues such as crushed blacks and blown highlights occur in captured images. High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging has been introduced as a technique to address this problem. However, HDR imaging requires capturing multiple images of the same scene with different exposure settings, which can lead to artifacts such as ghosting when the subject or camera moves.To overcome this, methods for generating HDR images from a single image have been proposed. Nevertheless, these approaches often suffer from insufficient global brightness enhancement or the appearance of false contours, limiting improvements in visual quality. In this paper, we propose a method that divides the input image into bright, dark, and intermediate regions, and generates a modified gamma curve for each region such that the derivative values at the boundaries match. These curves are then applied for luminance transformation to suppress the occurrence of false contours. We compare the proposed method with conventional approaches in terms of boundary preservation and brightness adequacy across various images, and confirm that the proposed method produces HDR images with improved visual quality, demonstrating its effectiveness. |
