A both-side retrodirective scheme (BOARD-WPT) has attracted attention as a leakage-reduction method for wireless power transmission systems. In this scheme, a phase-conjugate loop is formed between the transmitter and receiver through mutual re-transmission of phase-conjugated waves. Therefore, the non-ideal characteristics of the phase-conjugate mixer can significantly affect the loop operation. In particular, insufficient RF/IF isolation results in leakage components that distort the amplitude and phase of the conjugated signal, thereby degrading conjugation accuracy. In this study, an equivalent mixer model incorporating RF/IF leakage is introduced, and the relationships between RF/IF isolation and the resulting phase and amplitude errors are theoretically clarified. Furthermore, a leakage cancellation principle based on a dual-mixer configuration with 180° hybrids is presented, and the sensitivity to branch phase imbalance is evaluated. The results show that the effective isolation at the Σ port is primarily limited by the branch phase imbalance rather than the isolation performance of a single mixer. To achieve an effective isolation of 45 dB, the branch phase imbalance must be suppressed within approximately 8°. These results provide design guidelines for improving conjugation accuracy in phase-conjugate loop applications. |
