Proposal and Evaluation of an Adaptive ABR Algorithm for Volumetric Video Streaming

(in English) In recent years, with the advancement of VR and AR technologies, the demand for immersive media experiences has been increasing. Volumetric video is a technology that records entire 3D spaces and provides six degrees of freedom (6DoF), but its extremely large data size poses challenges for network distribution. VV-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) is a framework for adaptive streaming delivery of volumetric video, where ABR (Adaptive Bitrate) algorithms select quality levels according to network conditions. However, conventional ABR algorithms face challenges in efficient quality selection and adaptation to bandwidth fluctuations. This study therefore proposes a novel hybrid ABR algorithm that combines Sigmoid function-based dynamic safety margin and quality switching control. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through experiments in realistic network environments including latency and packet loss.
