When setting up test and research environment for wireless systems related to PNT (Positioning, Navigation, and Timing), radios capable of establishing phase/timing synchronization across multiple channels are useful. Anticipating calibration applications in constructing such experimental equipment, the authors have proposed a method for estimating the time difference between baseband signals at arbitrary granularity using phase-only correlation. This estimation method is used to establish phase and timing synchronization between channels in the USRP X300 series software-defined radio. As an example, an experiment was conducted using an X310 equipped with two UBX daughter boards. For two demodulated baseband signals operating at carrier frequency $F_c=3.5$ GHz and baseband sampling frequency of $F_{sb}=20$ [MHz], amplitude, phase, and time difference were corrected to establish synchronization. To verify synchronization accuracy, the two demodulated signals were subtracted after synchronization was established. The signal level after subtraction decreased by $-42$ dB. This result demonstrates the synchronization accuracy of the proposed method. |
