IP Network Path Control Using SRv6 with Consideration of QoS Characteristics in 5G Networks

(in English) In the fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G), QoS requirements are defined on a per-class basis, and flow-level communication control is performed within the network. On the other hand, in Data Networks
located outside the 5G Core Network, priority control and queue control based mainly on the DSCP are used, and consistent flow-level path control is not assumed. As a result, there is a challenge in that the intent of the QoS control defined in 5G is not reflected in path selection on the Data Network side. In this study, to address this issue, we propose a method that conveys the IPv6 Flow Label to the Data Network as a flow identifier based on 5G QoS indicators (5QI) and utilizes it for path control using SRv6. By using the Flow Label, the proposed method enables consistent path selection on a per-flow basis, unlike hop-by-hop control based on DSCP. Based on the proposedmethod, an end-to-end system including a 5G Core Network and a Data Network was constructed, and its design and implementation were carried out. Furthermore, a comparative evaluation with path control based on the widely used OSPFv3 was conducted, confirming that path selection according to QoS characteristics of 5G is possible. This study presents an implementation example that enables the QoS characteristics of 5G to be directly reflected in Data Network path control and provides one design guideline for QoS-oriented end-to-end path control.
