Implementation and Evaluation of Adaptive Flow-based Traffic Monitoring Using P4

(in English) In large-scale IP networks, bandwidth constraints on monitoring paths make it difficult to collect all traffic with high accuracy. This paper presents a flow-based traffic monitoring system using the Meter mechanism of P4 programmable switches. By hashing 5-tuple headers with CRC32 to generate flow IDs and mirroring only packets exceeding a threshold, the system selectively collects abnormal flows. A two-stage Meter configuration reduces false positives. In Mininet evaluation, under our experimental conditions, the system achieved approximately 97% bandwidth reduction while maintaining detection accuracy equivalent to full-flow forwarding, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed method.
