Mobile phone coverage in Japan exceeds 99% of the population. However, area coverage is only about 60-70%. This means that 30-40% of Japan's land area is not covered by mobile phone service. We are conducting research and development into a V/UHF multi-link network that provides wireless communication according to QoS, even in places where mobile phones cannot be used. For long-distance communication, low frequency bands are preferable. Also, because traffic is low, narrow bands are acceptable. Therefore, we are building an experimental system using V/UHF frequency bands that can be used at specific experimental stations. This paper describes the overview of the wireless platform and the experimental system. |
