Verification of the Effectiveness of Focus Group Interviews in VR Spaces

(in English) This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of Focus Group Interviews in VR spaces. We conducted comparative verification of participants' speaking volume and the quality of their responses across three conditions: physical space and two VR conditions (VR event venue and VR interview room). The results suggested that self-disclosure in the VR interview room was comparable to that in physical space. Furthermore, the VR event venue tended to encourage superficial impressions due to the abundance of visual information, while the real-world setting tended to encourage the use of formalities. Considering that VR spaces eliminate geographical constraints on participants' locations, enabling broader recruitment, the use of VR spaces could be a viable option for conducting qualitative research in the future.
