(in English) This study develops a new student counseling system using virtual reality technology and evaluates its effectiveness. To reduce the psychological barriers often associated with face‑to‑face counseling, we constructed a virtual counseling environment designed to provide a high level of anonymity and promote self‑disclosure among users. The system integrates a voice changer and gesture recognition functions, enabling nonverbal behaviors—such as nodding and hand movements—to be reflected in the user’s avatar. In addition, we developed a VR‑based counseling environment to enhance the sense of immersion during virtual interactions and examined its utility.
The results of the evaluation experiment indicate that student counseling conducted in the virtual environment was highly rated for its “ease of conversation,” suggesting that VR‑based counseling systems have the potential to reduce psychological burden.
