Age of Information in Preemptive Queueing Systems with Source Coding

(in English) The Age of Information (AoI) is defined as the elapsed time since the generation of information and is used as a
metric to quantify information freshness. In conventional studies, the AoI at the monitor has been analyzed in a communication
model consisting of an information source, a server, and a monitor, where symbols are assumed to be indistinguishable.
Subsequently, models incorporating an encoder have been proposed, in which symbols are distinguished and codeword length
is represented by assigning a service rate to each symbol. In this paper, we represent codeword length by dividing symbols
into multiple packets under a constant service rate. For this communication model, we derive a closed-form expression for the
time-average AoI.
