Wavefront Parallelized Autoregressive Learned Image Compression

(in English) Autoregressive (AR) context models are a standard component in learned image compression (LIC) for sequentially parameterizing symbol-wise probability distributions. However, spatial AR models that rely on raster-scan decoding are notoriously slow due to their strict sequential dependencies. In this work, we interpret the spatial context model as a dependency DAG(Directed Acyclic Graph) and derive an optimal linear schedule named delayed wavefront ordering that maximizes safe parallelism under the original causality constraints. Combined with GPU-friendly batched execution, our method accelerates spatial context modeling by over 25× without retraining.
