In a PoC (Proof of Concept) for validating new concepts or ideas, feasibility is examined by imagining and assuming future conditions of implementation. However, not everyone can easily envision how a service will be used in real-world situations. This study analyzes interviews conducted with care workers regarding a PoC of an AI-based care advisory tool and examines the relationship between the “virtual” and the “real” within the PoC process. The tool provides advice by drawing on the care recipient’s narrative when care workers seek support for challenges such as refusal of assistance. We discuss the value of the advice generated, concrete scenarios of tool use in practice, and its potential contribution to improving care workers’ skills. Through this analysis, we argue for the necessity of an integrative examination of the virtual and the real in PoC, from the perspectives of service content and context, as well as the service provider. |
