Hardware-Oriented Output Layer Architecture for SNN-based Sound Source Localization and Evaluation under Reverberant Environments

(in English) Aiming for implementation on edge devices, this study seeks to construct a system that completes the entire process of time-series data from learning to inference exclusively within a Spiking Neural Network (SNN). Using sound source localization as an evaluation task, we propose an architecture that integrates multiple network structures with different roles to execute direction-finding entirely on the SNN, and investigate its practical utility. For the input layer, the Lindemann model, which mimics the central auditory system, is adopted to convert acoustic signals into spike trains considering the interaural time difference. Simulation evaluations were conducted in both an anechoic environment and a simulated indoor environment accounting for wall reverberations. The results demonstrated that under anechoic conditions, the system could classify 21 directions with an accuracy of 76%. On the other hand, in the reverberant environment, while it maintained a 76% accuracy when targets were limited to 7 directions, the accuracy significantly dropped to 25% for 21 directions.
