Radio-based multi-floor indoor positioning is attractive for tracking workers and tools in large facilities and construction sites. However, floor slabs and exterior walls distort the received signal strength (RSS), reducing the accuracy of RSS-based methods. This paper proposes a simplified radio propagation model for multi-floor buildings that separates a floor-transmitted (FT) component and a wall-transmitted reflected (WT) component, combined in the linear power domain. The model is validated through a scene-aligned ray-tracing simulation and on-site LoRa measurements conducted in a seven-floor corridor. Results show that the FT component dominates on lower floors, whereas the WT component dominates on upper floors, explaining the reduced floorwise separability. Compared with FT-only baselines, the proposed model fits the measurements more closely and provides interpretable, calibratable parameters useful for system design and tuning. |
