In coding theory, a constant weight sequence is a sequence whose weight (the total value of the symbols in the sequence) is set to a constant value. Such sequences have been applied to data storage media. For example, they are expected to be applied to improve the stability of DNA storage by manipulating the ratio of Guanine to Cytosine within the DNA sequences.
Many studies on the weight range have been presented. Knuth proposed a method to encode an arbitrary binary sequence into a balanced sequence. Additionally, Swart and Weber proposed a method in which a sequence generated by a specific rule is added to the original sequence to adjust the weight of the resulting sequence. Based on the methods above, Kidu et al. proposed a method to expand the range of weights by utilizing segmentation.
These methods can be represented by adding specific sequences to the original sequence, where the added sequence has an upper bound on the number of runs (consecutive occurrences of the same symbol). Therefore, we propose a method that increases the number of runs in the specific sequences and present the weight range for the proposed method. |
