In wireless systems operating in high-frequency bands such as millimeter waves, flexible expansion of the service area in response to traffic fluctuations is required. This paper investigates an air-to-ground (A2G) network in which a large number of UAV base stations are deployed around a fixed ground base station. We consider an integrated network that combines A2G links and air-to-air (A2A) links between UAVs, and examine the optimal placement of UAVs according to the spatial distribution of users. In environments where user terminals are unevenly distributed in space, simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the user accommodation efficiency achieved by optimizing the deployment of UAV base stations using a genetic algorithm (GA). In addition, the potential of adaptive UAV placement control in response to temporal variations in user density is also discussed. |
