Security Enhancement Method for IPFS using Service Mesh

(in English) With the spread of Web3, adopting the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), a peer-to-peer storage technology, has become mainstream. However, IPFS faces a security challenge: once the identifier (Content ID (CID)) for content stored on IPFS is obtained, anyone can retrieve that content. To address this issue, this paper proposes a CID confidentiality method that leverages content encryption and service mesh. Typically, content encryption technologies are often built as separate systems, requiring application modifications for use. There are also processing time challenges associated with encryption. Therefore, our proposed method employs service-mesh technology to black-box CID handling from the application, thereby achieving CID confidentiality. Furthermore, limiting the encrypted content to metadata helps mitigate processing time overhead. Performance evaluation demonstrates that applying our method reduces content registration time by 0.2 to 0.5 times and retrieval time by 0.06 to 0.2 times compared to the baseline method.
