Exploring the physical limit of wireless information communications -- How can get closer to the Shannon limit in doubly selective fading environments --
Yoshio Karasawa AP2025-227
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Future mobile communications using higher frequencies, as well as underwater acoustic communications, which are also a target for expanding coverage, will encounter doubly selective fading environments in which both delay time spread and Doppler frequency spread are large. The author has derived a theoretical approximation formula that can easily calculate the channel capacity, which provides an upper limit on information transmission capability in the environment. In this formula, the channel capacity decreases depending on the value of the spread factor, but by expanding the bandwidth under constant signal power, the channel capacity can be increased up to the Shannon limit, where the effect of fading can be eliminated. In this report, we quantitatively clarify the relationship between channel capacity and bandwidth expansion in doubly selective fading environments.
