BBR (Bottleneck Bandwidth and Round-trip propagation time) is a new congestion control algorithm proposed by Google in 2016, designed to operate at the Kleinrock's ideal control point that achieves the maximal throughput with the minimum delay. BBR adjusts its sending rate based on the measured throughput of delivery rate and measured round-trip propagation delay. In our previous study, we show that delay jitter in ACK packets temporarily leads to overestimation of the delivery rate, leading to a long-time overestimation of available bandwidth. This behavior prevents BBR from operating at its designed ideal control point. To address this issue, we proposed LPF-BBR (Low-Pass-Filter-based BBR), which resolves temporal impact of delay jitter on ACK packets. However, the previous work used a probabilistic delay jitter model, which does not fully reproduce queue behavior, accordingly jitters in ACK in the real situation where other TCP flows coexist on the reverse path. In this paper, we evaluate BBR performance by using more realistic simulation model with a coexisting TCP New Reno flow in the reverse path. This allows us to evaluate how ACK jitter caused by a reverse-path TCP New Reno flow affects bandwidth overestimation in BBR and to verify the effectiveness of LPF-BBR. |
