To evaluate interference with aircraft radio altimeters in the Sub-6 GHz band of the fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G), we analyze Interference Path Loss (IPL) characteristics. In this study, we perform electromagnetic field simulations using a large-scale parallel Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. Previous studies have primarily assumed a flat surface as the ground model when aircraft are parked; however, in actual airport environments, scattering caused by ground surface irregularities may affect interference characteristics. Therefore, this paper performs an analysis incorporating a random rough-surface ground model in addition to a detailed numerical model of the Beechcraft B300 light aircraft. We compare the IPL characteristics on flat and rough ground surfaces and examine the effect of diffuse reflection from the ground on the interference power received by the radar altimeter antenna mounted on the underside of the aircraft. |
