The energy efficiency of AI accelerators needs to be improved at high levels to reduce the power consumption, which becomes an ever more critical challenge and also imperative. The energy-minimum-point (EMP) operation of AI accelerators is a technique to maximize the energy efficiency. In this article, challenges, configuration/design methodology, and performance of EMP-operation SRAM are described, and its applications to processing-in-memory (PIM) hardware for neural network accelerators are also shown. The EMP operation can lead highly energy-efficient PIM-type AI accelerators. |
