[Invited Lecture] Research and Development Activities on Highly Reliable and Low-Latency Mobile Network towards Automated Driving Era
Manabu Mikami (SoftBank) RCS2026-3
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Autonomated driving technologies are essential for realizing sustainable logistics and regional transportation services, and these require highly reliable and low-latency mobile networks to support it. V2N communication, which utilizes mobile networks, is indispensable for realizing ``smooth operation management'' and ``remote monitoring and remote operation'' of autonomated-driving vehicles. V2N2X communications, such as V2N2I and V2N2V, which are vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communications that apply V2N communication, are considered promising for ``providing predictive information'' to autonomated-driving vehicles and ``redundant radio links for direct vehicle-to-vehicle communication.'' In general, highly reliable and low-latency communication is required for radio communication that supports autonomated driving. This report introduces the auhthor's R&D activities toward highly reliable and low-latency mobile network technologies with a view to the autonomous driving era. In particular, it describes the current technical challenges of mobile networks toward realizing highly reliable and low-latency V2N/V2N2X communication and introduces two elemental technologies that can overcome these challenges early on: ``multiband redundant radio access strategy'' and ``SRv6 MUP''. Next, as an approach to the early realization of highly reliable, low-latency V2N/V2N2X, we propose an integrated approach that utilizes multiband redundant radio access strategy and SRv6 MUP. The experimental results in a 5G SA (Standalone) commercial network environment demonstrate that the proposed approach is a promising approach that can simultaneously improve the low latency and high reliability of V2N/V2N2X communication, regardless of the deployment location of the mobile core network.
