A Study on Location Estimation Using Wi-Fi Fingerprints

(in English) The spread of smartphones has increased the demand for indoor positioning. Wi-Fi fingerprinting, a common localization method, faces challenges regarding signal fluctuations during Access Point (AP) updates and the labor-intensive construction of databases. This paper experimentally evaluates how AP model changes and reduced AP density affect estimation accuracy in university classrooms. Results show that reducing APs degrades identification accuracy specifically near entrances. We demonstrate that focused measurements at these locations can maintain accuracy while reducing costs. Accordingly, we propose a method for autonomous database updates and a behavior visualization tool using continuous location tracking.
