Optical observation of acoustic streaming induced by 100-MHz-range ultrasound

(in English) Acoustic streaming induced by ultrasound in water at frequencies in the 100-MHz-range was observed using the schlieren technique. When the transducer was faced downward, the front of the acoustic streaming exhibited a lower grayscale than the surrounding area, indicating a refractive index change. On the other hand, with an initial propagation speed of less than 21 mm/s, the low-grayscale region gradually slowed to a static state while continuing to form an arch-shaped region more than 15 mm away from the transducer surface. The propagation speed and refractive index change were confirmed to be correlated with the number of burst cycles and the applied voltage.
