Focusing on the problem that base stations stop functioning during large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, which delays the understanding of the disaster situation, this study proposes a system for estimating the number of people using UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) as a means of collecting information that does not depend on ground-based communication infrastructure. In the past, the number of people was estimated by identifying the same terminal based on the MAC address of probe requests issued from smartphones. However, due to the recent strengthening of privacy protection, MAC addresses are now randomized, and the conventional method is no longer applicable. Therefore, we propose a new method for estimating the number of identical terminals by focusing on the features included in probe requests and the transmission characteristics of each terminal. Through simple experiments, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method and showed that the same terminal can be estimated with a certain degree of accuracy even in a random MAC address environment. However, since the estimation accuracy depends on the user's smartphone operation, the estimation accuracy is expected to be lower in real environments, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed in the future. |
