Space-time synchronization and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) are key research areas that should be prioritized in sixth-generation (6G) and beyond fifth-generation (B5G) systems. In this context, space-time synchronization refers to a state in which all nodes within a given region are synchronized, and each node can determine the distances to its neighboring nodes. Recent advances in device technologies, such as high-stability frequency reference oscillators, have significantly improved the accuracy of space-time synchronization. Space-time synchronization is expected to play a vital role in applications such as cyber-physical systems (CPS), as well as in advancing other communication-related fields. This presentation will begin with an overview of current research and development trends in space-time synchronization. It will then cover the author's recent work on wireless communication systems based on space-time synchronization, focusing on technologies that enable the simultaneous connectivity of multiple wireless terminals. Finally, it will discuss future prospects for 6G and B5G systems. |
