Microwave chemical processes enable catalytic reactions that are difficult to achieve with conventional external heating by providing material-selective energy input through electromagnetic fields. This work introduces the formation of local high-temperature in catalytic reactions and their underlying mechanisms, along with applications in biomass conversion, lipid upgrading, CO₂ capture, and biobased material processing. In particular, advances in in situ characterization and electromagnetic field analysis have clarified the unique reaction acceleration effects induced by microwave irradiation. These findings provide new guidelines for designing highly efficient and low-carbon processes based on electrification. |
