Speech rate conversion is a listening assistance technology that slows down speech while maintaining pitch, thereby aiding conversation comprehension. When applied to real-time conversation, a time lag arises between the speaker and the listener, which causes speech overlap. In this study, we applied vibrotactile feedback as a stimulus to convey this time lag to the speaker and compared it with the conventional method of visual feedback. The vibration stimulus was implemented as a 12-level vibration pattern with the aim of replicating the function of visual feedback in presenting the quantitative and temporal progression of the time delay. The results showed that the vibration was not used as the quantitative information initially assumed, but rather as a cue indicating changes or pauses, and was used to adjust speech timing. These findings provide new design guidelines for using vibration to indicate time delays in speech rate conversion. |
