Self-synchronizing single-deletion-correcting codes -- Introduction and review --

(in English) This paper summarizes our recent studies on self-synchronizing single-deletion-correcting (SDC) codes, in which the receiver must identify codeword boundaries without delimiters even when a single deletion occurs in each codeword. Removing delimiters improves transmission efficiency, but the decoder must recover block boundaries from the received stream alone. We review the construction of SDC codes from complementary information set (CIS) codes and the design of DNA codes from reversible self-dual codes over $GF(4)$ developed in our previous works, and then present a new extension that makes these codes self-synchronizing. The main new ingredients are a two-argument generalization of the inserted marker symbol and a complementation rule that flips a codeword whenever its first symbol coincides with the last symbol of the previous codeword; together they eliminate boundary ambiguity. We provide explicit encoding and decoding algorithms with worked examples.
