Effects of Presentation Modality on Short-Term Memory in Older Adults with Dementia

(in English) This study experimentally examined the retrieval processes of true and false memories across auditory and visual presentation modalities using the DRM paradigm in two older adults with dementia who had similar MMSE scores. Results from recall and recognition tests revealed different patterns between participants. Participant A showed suppressed false memory, whereas Participant B produced more list and lure responses and exhibited high false recognition. Regarding the relationship between recall and recognition, Participant A showed frequent intrusions in recall but not in recognition, whereas Participant B showed consistently high false recall and false recognition. These findings suggest differences in the functioning of retrieval and monitoring processes.
