Cues for Case Formulation in Online Bereavement Support Conversations -- A Preliminary Study Based on Expert Perspectives --

(in English) This preliminary study explored cues for case formulation in an online bereavement support conversation using one initial-session case, based on the counselor’s introspective report and the perspectives of four experts in grief care/therapy. The findings indicated that the experts attended both to combinations of nonverbal, paralinguistic, and verbal cues, such as discrepancies between well-structured speech and less-regulated nonverbal expressions, and to subtle client responses to the counselor’s utterances. They also attempted to identify emotions and themes underlying the client’s words. The results suggest that organizing and visualizing the flow of conversation together with multimodal cues may provide a useful basis for supporting counselors’ post-session reflection.
