A study on chromaticity modulation based on pixel-level color difference in display-to-camera communication

(in English) This paper investigates visible light communication systems using digital signage displays and image sensors, such as smartphone cameras. Since this system embeds signals as chromaticity variations, a trade-off between communication quality and visual quality poses a significant challenge, as conventional uniform-intensity methods cause localized excessive color differences or insufficient signal intensity. We propose an imperceptible modulation method based on pixel-level color difference that individually optimizes signal intensity for each pixel. Additionally, we introduce a demodulation method based on normalized cross-correlation (NCC) to evaluate distribution similarity within signal cells. This study clarifies how these methods improve visual quality uniformity and communication performance.
