Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper investigates the effect of DC bias control in an underwater simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (USLIPT) system employing DCO-OFDM. While underwater visible light communication (UVLC) enables high-speed data transmission, maintaining sufficient power supply for underwater devices remains a significant challenge. In particular, the DC bias in optical OFDM plays a crucial role not only in ensuring signal non-negativity but also in determining the energy harvesting performance. In this study, an LED-based optical OFDM USLIPT system is considered, and the relationships between the DC bias level and both bit error rate (BER) and average harvested power are theoretically analyzed. In addition, the impact of communication distance and data rate on system performance is evaluated. The results show that both BER and harvested power characteristics can be classified into three distinct regions depending on the bias level. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the feasible bias range satisfying the BER constraint shrinks as the data rate increases, indicating a trade-off between communication performance and energy harvesting performance. Moreover, due to transmit power normalization, the AC signal component decreases in the high-bias region despite the increase in the DC component. As a result, the harvested power does not necessarily increase with the bias level. These findings highlight the importance of appropriate DC bias design for achieving efficient joint optimization of communication and energy harvesting in USLIPT systems.
