Effect of Transmission-Line Delay on Sub-Mode Spacing in a Phase-Conjugate Loop

(in English) In a phase-conjugate loop, the propagation phase is canceled for the main mode, whereas a residual phase remains for frequency-offset components, resulting in sub-modes. In this paper, focusing on the fact that the sub-mode spacing is determined by the effective delay of the loop, the relationship is investigated by circuit simulation. The effective delay was evaluated from the open-loop S-parameters, and the spacing of multiple peaks observed in the closed-loop oscillation spectrum was found to be in good agreement with the estimated value. In addition, as a basic study toward experiments, measured delay times of optical-fiber delay-line systems with different lengths are reported.
