In recent years, the importance of Child Presence Detection (CPD) technology in preventing infants from being left behind in vehicles has increased. The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), has introduced CPD as an evaluation item. Millimeter-wave radar-based sensing shows promise for non-contact detection and ensuring anonymity. However, evaluating these systems with human subjects can be challenging due to the difficulty of ensuring reproducible data. In this study, we analyzed millimeter-wave vital sensing using a breathing human body model through a combined approach of ray-tracing and Physical Optics (PO), and verified the simulation method for vital sign estimation. The result of the analysis showed that vital signs could be detected even in Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) environments, suggesting a certain level of effectiveness of the proposed method. |
