[Invited Lecture] EP Tracking via PWM Load Switching in a PT-Symmetry-Based Wearable WPT

(in English) This paper proposes an active load modulation method for parity-time (PT) symmetric wireless power transfer (WPT) to achieve high-efficiency power delivery to clothing equipped with multiple sensor nodes. As an example of a power transmission method that preserves wearability and comfort, we consider a system where a battery mounted on the belt transmits power wirelessly to a receiving coil embedded in a shirt. In PT-symmetric WPT, the exceptional point (EP) marks the boundary for maintaining constant efficiency. We demonstrate that this EP is strictly determined by the external quality factor. Consequently, when circuit parameters are fixed, an intrinsic tradeoff emerges where aiming for higher efficiency narrows the operating range. To overcome this limitation, we propose a simple circuit configuration and control scheme that actively tracks the EP according to the coupling state by adjusting the effective load resistance via PWM switching. Circuit simulations confirm that tracking the EP with the proposed method enables high-efficiency WPT over a wide range.
