A study on scream synthesis using latent diffusion model Reiji Hirao, Yoshiko Arimoto (Chiba Tech) SP2026-14 |

This study aimed to synthesize screams using a Latent Diffusion Model (LDM) and to evaluate their quality. Sample-efficient Speech Diffusion (SESD) was applied to our scream synthesis, and its effectiveness was assessed. A subjective evaluation was performed the naturalness and scream-likeness, of synthesized screams by comparing human screams and screams synthesized by Variational Inference with Adversarial Learning for End-to-End Text-to-Speech (VITS). As a result, SESD achieved 3.41 $pm$ 0.68 in the naturalness evaluation, which is higher than VITS (2.29 $pm$ 0.56) by 1.12 points. These results suggest that LDM is effective for scream synthesis. |
