[Poster Presentation] Real-time Voice Activity Detection for Speech Recognition in Dialogues between Known and Unknown Speakers

(in English) This paper proposes a framework for voice activity detection to enable real-time speech recognition in dialogues between a known speaker whose enrollment audio is available in advance and an unknown speaker for whom no prior information is given. In dialogue environments such as service counters and face-to-face interactions, a known speaker (e.g., an agent) and an unknown speaker (e.g., a customer) encountered for the first time, typically coexist. To perform speech recognition individually for each speaker, it is necessary to segment the mixed audio stream into speaker-specific voice activity segments and input them to the recognizer. However, distinguishing the voice activity of an unknown speaker from that of a known speaker with low latency remains a challenging problem. The proposed framework addresses this challenge by using speaker embeddings of the known speaker to perform relative identification of voice activity for both known and unknown speakers. In the evaluation experiments, the proposed method outperformed the baseline method, achieving improvements of 16.6 points in utterance segment detection performance, 39.9 points in character error rate for known speakers, and 38.1 points in character error rate for unknown speakers. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for speaker-dependent speech recognition in conversational environments where unknown speakers are present.
