(in English) This report summarizes the research trends garnering attention in the field of optical backbone transmission, based on the research and development results presented and discussed at OFC 2026. This year’s event was held in Los Angeles, USA, from March 15 to March 19, 2026. The conference attracted approximately 17,800 participants from 91 countries, featuring 643 presentations—including 115 invited talks—and 706 exhibits at the accompanying exhibition hall. The breakdown of presentations by country remained consistent with last year, with China, the United States, and Japan ranking first, second, and third, respectively. While the proportions of presentations from the U.S. and Japan remained largely unchanged, the proportion from China decreased, offset by a slight overall increase in the proportion from Europe. The number of presentations related to Hollow Core Fiber (HCF) remained strong, and the increase in the number of sessions was particularly notable. Several HCF demonstration exhibits were also on display at the exhibition hall. In terms of the sheer volume of topics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stood out, particularly with research and development reports and exhibits related to data centers.
