(in English) This paper investigates the applicability of weakly-coupled four-core fibers compatible with ITU-T G.654 standards to submarine cable. We evaluated the cabling-process-induced variations and temperature dependence of optical loss and inter-core crosstalk. Although different trends were observed between homogeneous-core and heterogeneous-core structures, both exhibited excellent optical characteristics that support bidirectional transmission over 10,000 km. These results are expected to accelerate the application of multi-core fibers to long-haul submarine transmission systems.
