This talk reviews our recent post-deadline paper presented at OFC2026 [1]. In this work, we demonstrate the world's first implementation of the Longitudinal Power Monitoring (LPM), which visualizes the fiber-longitudinal power distribution along an optical fiber link using only the coherent receiver, on a coherent DSP chip. By processing only the standard 800ZR+/400ZR+ traffic signals received at a compact OSFP pluggable transceiver, we achieve distributed monitoring over up to 1005 km with a sampling resolution of 2.1 km, and successfully localize multiple optical power anomalies along the link. We also confirm correct LPM operation when the transmit signal originates from a different vendor's transceiver, demonstrating multi-vendor interoperability. Furthermore, we verify that the LPM introduces no penalty in transmission performance or power consumption, confirming the simultaneous realization of data communication and distributed monitoring. |
