This paper presents a QoS-aware quantitative evaluation framework for load balancing strategies in web server clusters. To capture dynamic request routing, server congestion, and fallback behaviors under overload conditions, a hierarchical modeling framework based on Petri nets, continuous-time Markov chains (CTMCs), and multi-state systems (MSSs) is developed. Representative load balancing strategies, including random, round robin, least connection, and their fallback-enhanced variants, are incorporated into the unified model. Two QoS-oriented metrics, namely service health probability and request loss probability, are introduced for quantitative evaluation. |
