In sixth-generation mobile communication systems (6G), MIMO spatial multiplexing in sub-THz band is expected to achieve extremely high data rates. However, due to the high carrier frequencies of the sub-THz band, channel variations caused by the mobility of terminals and/or surrounding scatterers become more pronounced. To address this, channel prediction is proposed to reduce the transmission frequency of pilot symbols required for data demodulation. Previous studies have proposed methods to estimate delays and complex amplitudes of multipath components by applying compressed sensing algorithms and the least squares method to predict future channels. In this paper, we investigate a scheme using OMP and least squares, which offers a lower computational load. We evaluate the effective prediction horizon of the proposed method by comparing it with the channel estimates obtained from pilot symbols to determine how far into the future the predicted values can maintain acceptable accuracy. The simulation results demonstrate that when user equipment moves at a velocity of 1 m/s, the proposed method can maintain higher prediction accuracy for up to approximately 5 ms depending on the multipath environment. |
